For a Life Free of Discrimination

Under the Multilevel Empowerment of Expert Capacities in Anti-Discrimination Domain project, the Citizen and Democracy organised an educational event for humanities students on 11 - 13 June 2009 in Tatranská Štrba. The event entitled For a Life Free of Discrimination focused primarily on discrimination based on sex/gender and sexual orientation. This interactive interdisciplinary training concentrated on discrimination in the field of gender equality and sexual orientation.

A part of the training programme consisted of model situations and particular case-solving activities, with the participants working in groups and pairs.

The core training activities concentrated on the issue of gender roles and stereotypes, control and language mechanisms from the gender perspective. In addition, the core activities further focused on the issue of heterosexism and homophobia. Introductory presentations, open discussions and scholarly feedback on activities performed by the students were provided by lecturers with expertise in this field.

The project was supported by the Foundation NOS-OSF, the EEA Financial Mechanism and Norwegian Financial Mechanism as well as the State budget of Slovakia.
